England Captain

England Captain - Andrew Strauss

Ashes Cricket Betting OddsAndrew Strauss was appointed Captain of England’s test and one day team prior to the England tour of West indies in February. The appointment includes this England Ashes team and came in the wake of the resignation of previous captain, Kevin Pietersen. His appointment did not bring immediate success as they lost the test series to the West Indies. Since thenm however, Strauss who batted superbly himself guided the team to a 3-2 ODI success. He has since captained the team to a revenge victory against the Windies, winning both matches in the two test series.

Strauss had a remarkable start as a test batsman, scoring a hundred at Lords on debut against New Zealand and he almost become the first English batsman to score a century in both innings but was out after making 83.

Strauss was a very consistent batsman for the first three years as an England player and earned a place in the worlds top ten batsmen. However a dip in form saw him lose his place in 2007, at which point he took a welle arned rest from the game.

He was recalled to the test team in 2008 to tour New Zealand where he excelled scoring a big hundred in the third test.

On the tour to the West indies this year, Strauss played a perfect captain's role, scoring three test centuries and finishing on top of the England averages. He seems to be back in great form ahead of the Ashes, and will be hoping to add to the two centuries he scored in the last Ashes series played in England. The series win against the Windies was a huge tonic for him and the team and Strauss will now be confident that he has a committed team and one that can regain the Ashes against a determined Australian team
