Fourth Ashes Test
This fourth Ashes Test takes place at Headingley Carnegie between 7-11 August 2009. It has a ground capacity of 17,000 and test cricket has been played there since 1899.
England has named a 14 man squad for the fourth Ashes Test which includes two new faces, Jonathan Trott, and Ryan Sidebottom. Their inclusion has fuelled speculation regarding the form and possible dropping of both Ravi Bopara, who has been batting poorly at number three and Stuart Broad, who has not been cutting the mustard in the bowling stakes. There is also of course the question mark over the fitness of all rounder, Andrew Flintoff, rumours are rife that he will not be fit enough for this match and that he might well be saved for the final test at the Oval towards the end of the month.

Headingley of course was the scene of England's resurgence in the 1981 Ashes series, led by the incomparable Ashes legend Ian Botham. The series was later to be dubbed 'Bothams Ashes' and he will be long regarded as an Ashes legend as a result. See Ashes history for more.

1981 Headingley Test
In that Headingley test, Australia were well poised to take a 2-0 series lead, with England following on. But with perfect timing in stepped Botham and scored an incredible 149 which forced the Aussies to bat again.
England quickie, Bob Willis, then played his part and it was he who destroyed the Australian batting line up with 8 wickets for just 43 runs, which sealed an 18 run win for England and levelled the series, which England went on to win 3-1.
Amazingly, After England were made to follow on they had betting odds of 500/1 to win in the Ashes in-play betting market, which several players took advantage of.
There was no test played at Headingley in the 2005 Ashes tour. The two teams will be announced nearer the date and will be included on this page.
